UnitedHealth Group has taken a beating on Wall Street this week after admitting that its Medicare Advantage plans had to pay out more in medical claims in the third quarter of this year than investors had expected.
"Taking a beating" is a relative term when it comes to stock prices. United Health Group stock was selling right around $32/share when ACA AKA "Rombamacare" was signed into law. $556.29 is not too shabby of a return over 14 years. That's more than a 1738% increase, or 124% per year. Making profit off of human suffering is something that we need to evolve from.
It is a shame that even our health must be commodified. Why can't we design an economic system without predators?
