Mayor Eric Adams consorts with all kinds of grifters. The trumpery got the charges against him dropped, for the quid pro quo of the Mayor supporting his anti-immigrant policies.
He is running for re-election. Nobody is going to vote for him.
With pressure from Wall Street I expect Medicare disadvantage to discard those costly patients leaving them uncovered and likely to die miserable deaths. This is murder and the insurers had better not follow Wall Streets directives. The time has come to put an end to privatized insurance such as Medicare Disadvantage. Our Members of the Senate Finance Committee had better stop supporting the industry and consider why we have Medicare for retirees. It is to make our lives better, not worse. We have paid into the system and we should not let the industry exploit the fact we paid into the system and taxpayers are also being ripped off.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit. These Republican Goons are callous and insensitive to normal taxpaying Americans who do real work. We need to keep The Senate Finance Committee abreast of these actions so that they reject the House Bill. Only by engaging your Senators can we place pressure on them to represent us as they are bound to do.
You will get nothing out of the Senate when they are bought and paid for by big Health Insurers. Dropping members older that 65 when they no longer have the option to go back to Original Medicare with a supplement is cruel and unusual punishment. We need INSURANCE REFORM! We have predatory Capitalism in this country and if I wasn’t already disabled I would leave this country. If Trump has his way, I’ll be killed off shortly.
I have to agree with you entirely. We seriously need insurance reform and with the current cuts Senate they don’t have the balls and intestinal fortitude nor integrity to end Medicare (dis)Advantage. They have been bought and paid for by the insurance lobbyists. I only hope that We the People hold these crooked politicians accountable come midterm elections, assuming enough informed people are not purged from the polls by the GOP racists and bigots at the Federal, State and local levels. Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia are States in need a thorough cleansing of the existing political Status quo Jim Crow Ver. 2025.
This is why we need single payer. A system that covers everyone equally and pays hospitals and providers a fair amount. Our private insurance system worked back in the day when insurance companies and hospitals were nonprofit. Unbridled capitalism will not provide humane healthcare.
Why is Congress so reluctant to require the major insurance companies to offer Medicare supplement plans without restrictions to Advantage Plan members who leave (involuntarily or voluntarily)?
If they leave involuntarily then they have "guaranteed issue" and the companies have to take them for a medicare supplement. If they leave voluntarily they have to pass medical underwriting to get a supplement. The reason is that as long as you don't use much health care advantage plans cost less to the consumer than original medicare with a supplement. The minute you need to use much of your health care then a supplement is cheaper. What the companies are trying to do is to prevent people when they are healthy to use the disadvantage plans and then when they are sick switch to a supplement as that would make supplements top heave with expensive sick people and drive the premiums up. People need to pay into the supplement system when they are healthy, not just when they are sick to make it fair to those who signed up for the supplement at 65 when they were healthy.
Original Medicare will care for all seniors. The reason it was created in 1965 was because Private for-profit health insurance dropped people as they aged. Call members of congress and support re introduction of a comprehensive Medicare for all bill that will save taxpayers a lot of money.
We are in the last 10 year sprint where we will finally see the baby boomer generation aging out of the population to the point they will no longer be the largest burden on the system and society in general.
The path from here to 2035 will be tumultuous as they go kicking and screaming the entire way.
Their parents didn’t name them the “ME generation” for nothing 😂
It sure would be nice if they could get out of the way and quit trying to make everything about them. After all, they’re no longer the largest generation but they keep screaming like they are.
This started with The Insurance Industry with The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) seeking to be excluded from federal antitrust laws and the McCarran-Ferguson Act was passed, granting them immunity from federal laws except in cases of coercion, boycott, or intimidation. In The Academic Law Research Journal The Dark Side Of Insurance by. Ronan Abraham and Ariel Porat, since the 19th century, insurance companies have engaged in collusion and unfair practices. The National Board of Fire Underwriters, created in 1866, aimed to promote federal regulation over state regulation, opposing state control. In 1869, they challenged state regulation in the Supreme Court case Paul v. Virginia but lost, leading to state-level regulation instead. The Supreme Court ruled that insurance was not interstate commerce and could only be regulated by states. However, this ruling allowed insurance companies to avoid federal antitrust laws, leading to cartel-like behavior until the 1944 case U.S. v. South-Eastern Underwriters Association, which revealed price-fixing. The Supreme Court then partially overturned Paul v. Virginia, declaring that interstate insurance was commerce and subject to the Sherman Antitrust Act. After this The McCarran-Ferguson Act granted the Insurance Industry immunity from federal antitrust laws, except in cases of coercion, boycott, or intimidation, allowing them to operate independently. In The Academic Law Research Journal The Dark Side Of Insurance by. Ronan Abraham and Ariel Porat;
“The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) was created by state insurance commissioners and has influenced insurance regulation through model laws. While the NAIC has set rate standards, it is a private organization funded in part by insurance companies. Over time, the NAIC gained significant control over state insurance laws, pressuring states to adopt its regulations. For instance, New York faced loss of accreditation for not adopting model laws, leading to accusations of collusion and threats to state sovereignty.
Insurance companies' anti-competitive behavior extends beyond lobbying and includes hiring former insurance regulators, with many commissioners finding jobs in the insurance industry after their terms, often leading to laxer regulation. This combination of weak enforcement of antitrust laws and strong industry collaboration through the NAIC has allowed the insurance industry to maintain risks in society. This suggests that insurance companies facilitate long-term risks and that anti-social collaboration among them is both possible and likely.”
This means that Insurance Companies and The Insurance Industry through The NAIC have been able to influence insurance regulation. They have also been able to pressure states to adopt their regulations. They also have been able to pressure states to adopt their model laws. Insurance companies have been able to engage in anti-competitive practices, hire former regulators, and promote laxer regulation, often after their terms, leading to lack of competition in the industry. The insurance industry's weak enforcement of antitrust laws and strong industry collaboration through the NAIC have allowed it to maintain risks in society. Insurance companies also are found to facilitate long-term risks, potentially leading to potential anti-social collaboration among them. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of Medicare Advantage, but I don't understand the legal mechanism through which high-cost patients could be kicked out. Please explain to your readers. And it needs to be explained in simple language before next year's so-called Open Enrollment.
Aha! Medicare Disadvantage is coming out of the closet. The rapacious corporation closet.
Some hospitals are dropping these corrupt/corporate welfare disadvantaged plans
Our stupid mayor (NYC) has been attempting to change the retired city employees to Medicare Disadvantage, and they are really angry about it.
Corporate for-profit health insurance Lobbyist must be infiltrating state retirement systems with money.

Currently republicans are trying to reverse the new law that allows Medicare to negotiate pharmaceutical pricing for drugs.

Oh, maybe they take so much money from lobbyists they just can’t see the need.

The problem is the population bubble affects every stage of life the boomers go through. This will be no exception.
Truth.

I would suspect they look at average cost per membership and those that are higher are the ones the dump.
cue the death panels! Unfortunately, those who need to listen, will not and continue on with this medical insurance scam until it affects them.
