A new bipartisan request targets how insurers may be funneling Medicare funds through owned providers—raising red flags about fraud, abuse, and $1.2 trillion in overpayments.
It would also be helpful to stop MA agents from scamming older people on these plans. MA agents are very aggressive because they want to sell enough of the junk for lavish vacations and big bonuses.
I called both TX senators with the simple message if you want to find fraud look at Medicare advantage plans. Like that did any good but my representative relied he was trying. Thank you Al Green
My licensed agent claims that part c compensation (I call it corporate welfare) is given to for-profit private health insurance corporations to take over an individual’s health needs.
Why is it that many of these articles have similar themes? The government creates the ACA, a law that also created all sorts of market distortions. Then these articles are written asking the question as to why insurers are gaming the system. The result is that more legislation is needed to correct the problem. It's like dog chasing its tail.
The real problem is and always has been creation of the PPACA. Congress, with no votes from Republicans, passed this bill that was a shell. Once signed into law, Congress then asked unelected bureaucrats to fill in the blanks. Individuals who had absolutely no idea how insurance works, had the audacity to claim they knew what they were doing and now we are left with what Barak Obama claimed would save $2,500 per family per year, and you can keep you doctor, and your plan. Nothing was further from the truth.
Now we have the clarion call that "Something Must be Done!" What did everyone expect? Government creates ridiculous rules and mandates, and the result is generally a mess. Then more rules and mandates are piled on top with similar results. The cost of health insurance has increased at a much greater rate then before the PPACA became law. When will you all will have had enough?
And please do say we need "Medicare for All". Then we will have unelected government bureaucrats telling us who and what will be covered, just like all other government controlled health care. Under government control, once the cost of medical care begins to increase then rationing begins, elderly citizens are denied care, as well as a lack of medical professionals that results in increased wait times for care! One thing is abundantly clear under government controlled health care; politicians and bureaucrats will never face these obstacles, period! Socialism is for the people not the Socialists!
I have seen Republicans obstructing affordable healthcare since 1972. Universal, single payer & or expanded and improved Medicare for all is a brave solution.
so what is your proposal? Eliminate insurance? Offer catastrophic policies again as an option? Everything should be private insurance like auto or life (not exactly a great model either). Medicare for Anyone who wants it (funded via taxes, which means private and cash markets still exist) and the ability to buy up or go private seems reasonable compared to what we have? Big risk but if we want a let them eat cake moment, get rid of any publicly funded health insurance. And while we are at it, lets fix higher ed which has used government backed student loans to raise prices to the sky.
Eliminate health insurance, not at all. If the government controlled health care then we all would have no other choices. It's the same to public schools, we pay taxes to run K-12 education which is controlled by the government. The only other choices are private and parochial schools which require additional tuition, which eliminates choice for many.
The better option is for a high risk pool for the 20% who use 80% of health care. Existing private insurance could provide basic coverage up to a specific amount, say up to the first $500,000. This would dramatically reduce the cost of medical insurance and the government would be the back-stop. Part of the monthly premium paid would be directed to fund the high risk pool. This all would be coupled with comprehensive primary care, which is sorely lacking today.
Lastly, retain Medicare and Medicaid. Reform Medicare so that it is more efficient. Currently, it's just and in and out system. No medical management. Just bureaucrats deciding what is covered and how. Medicaid was originally conceived to cover low income and temporary in nature. Now is a catchall for almost anyone, with no work requirements. For many, it's the only medical coverage they will have for life.
Whenever the government touches a product or service (in the form of regulations, mandates, etc) the cost always increases. This is irrefutable! That is why the entire PPACA could have been cut down to two of the most important items; provide a premium subsidy based on income and a clause that required coverage for those with pre-existing medical conditions. Now it's just a monstrosity that has resulted in premium increases of 300% or more since January 1, 2014 along ridiculously high deductibles and maximum out-of-pocket exposure.
Reform is possible but it requires all players to jump in!

Thank you for your success W. Potter.
Yes part C (MA) equals private for-profit health insurance corporations.

Why not have fElon Musk and D.O.G.E. take care of this waste and fraud ?
I can't afford Medicare or Medicare Advantage. Crooks own the healthcare system.
I have been seeing Trump supported TV ads that say that Medicare Advantage Plans are in danger because of the attacks by liberals.
When is the lying ever going to stop?
Yep here’s your fraud, waste and abuse—and on a massive scale.
Me thinks they would follow it right back to 47's cronies on the boards of the cos.
So why in the world did CMS just give Medicare Advantage a 5+% pay raise?
Sometimes I think it because Senators & Representatives are paid by for-profit private insurance corporation lobbyists.
