The administrations new ACA rules encourage health insurers to offer loans for medical bills instead of addressing the soaring out-of-pocket costs driving Americans into debt.
This is so far from the Affordable Care Act that it might as well be in another galaxy. Patients are already paying for care they don’t receive via premiums/copays and now they have to go into debt to the very companies that denying them that care?! Talk about highway robbery. This should not be legal.
Right now medical debt can be discharged in bankruptcy. When insurance companies start making loans, I’ll bet dollars to donuts many of these loans will be secured by people’s homes. Then that medical debt is no longer dischargable in bankruptcy and people will become homeless if they can’t pay. This is beyond disgusting.
The ACA rules for 2027 and 2028 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services... is this another horrible idea hatched by Dr. Oz and fully endorsed by Trump? Insurance companies offering loans (let me guess--variable rate) when they deny you care or charge you unaffordable deductibles? How I wish Dickens were still alive to write a novel about this.
Optum proves sick care is much more profitable. Current administration prefers using AI to deny and delay treatment to ensure our private for-
profit commercial health insurance industry’s enormous profit plus continuing corporate welfare. Teach people to clean their vehicle windshield inside using only water and wipe with clean rag and outside with the cleaner of their choice. I know to practicALL: Call Congress 202–224-3121 asking ALL to please pass the Medicare for ALL
This is making me sad. After hearing how many Americans dropped off of ACA, how draconian the rules will be to prove one is “medically frail” for the upcoming Medicaid work requirement roll-out, & just being a human who didn’t have health insurance at 23 & boy did that suck! 1 kitchen accident & gangrene ensued. The pain when they burned the gangrene out at the hospital clinic? I screamed so loud that people thought I was having a baby. This was in the early 1990s.
I’m on plain vanilla part A, B, D Medicare now. I am worried abt the govt taking it away or defunding it. They did it to Medicaid. Nothing is impossible. Or they can cut it to the bone. The use of AI in 6 states as a “test” to eliminate waste, fraud, & abuse for a subset of certain procedures (including steroid injections for pain-which I get when the timing is right) shows DENY DENY DENY. I had to shop for different brands of medication on part D which I thought was insane. IT WAS ALL GENERIC but one hand washes the other.
Cancer treatment is optional. You know that right? I had 3 emergency surgeries in 2016. When I got back to work a colleague said, “I feel so bad that you’ll have to spend your bonus on medical bills.” I had already started receiving scary bills. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth. I didn’t have the money. I would never have that money. I sent docs checks the insurance sent me. I was never called by collections. In New York it seems if you’re getting treated with emergency surgery & the anesthesia guy is out of network & demands $23k, well, he has to accept what your insurance says he gets. If you have cancer, as my colleague’s husband had, that’s out-of-pocket. Which is bullsh1t.
Also, according to Dr Oz, cancer does not make a person medically frail. If you need Medicaid to cover your chemo you need to put in 20 hours/week.
But THIS? Your insurance company will say, “Wellll… you can get that head CT being as you fell a few times & had loss of consciousness at age 54. It’s gonna cost you tho. Put $500 down & monthly payments of $50 until you’ve paid $2000 off.”
I’d rather pass away. I’ll put clothes or shoes on layaway but not a colonoscopy. Cuz … Euw.

What continues to boggle the mind is how his MAGA morons will suffer the consequences of Trumpism and voracious Republicanism just like the rest of us. Yet they’ll go to church and declare Trump to be the new Messiah. They’ll pull his lever at the voting booth, because they have become tantalized by the purported promises of minority rule, the hunger for power denied for too long. They’ll starve themselves just to own the libs. By the time they realize their mistake, it will be too late.
It seems insurers have found another innovative way to sell insurance without providing insurance.

Oh goodie, it's not enough for the insurers to deny treatment, now they'll give you a loan with huge interest rates and take your house when you die.
The solution is Medicare for All
Next step might be that private equity insure this bank. Is that more dystopian? #M4A
One more (in a long line) payoffs to the insurance companies.
