Our healthcare/sickness maintaining system is a pathetic shadow of the single payer systems found in ALL other developed nations. Stock holder profits have no place in medicine and Bernie Sander's long promoted "Medicare For All" is a good start. I say this as a retired physician/psychiatrist and 1972 graduate of the Univ. of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, who practiced for 40 post grad years and retired at 67 still owed $500K in uncollected co-pays, which I had to threaten the collection agencies with suit in order to get them to leave my former patients the hell alone. Many of us are in medicine for the right reason, like the young author of this fine expose' of United Health. Have a blessed day.

Dr. Leopold - very worthwhile description of this corporate venture. Sounds like you and some of your classmates brought your inquisitive minds and previous learnings to bear. Seems like the university faculty weren’t providing any counterweight to the corporate view during the class. Doesn’t need to be point/counterpoint but surely your faculty would promote a wider examination of healthcare insurance & policy than one company’s view.

Maybe we could propose another elective collaboration - say, public health & environmental policy with Exxon Mobil 😉
