Check out a piece published in The Nation by Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep Mark Pocan and me as part of our continued efforts to expose fraud and abuse in the Medicare Advantage program.
Insurers have rigged the Medicare Advantage program to benefit shareholders and withhold important information about the differences between real Medicare and Medicare Advantage. I’ll share a quote from the piece below:
Unlike ads for prescription drugs, insurance companies are not required by law to mention the side effects on patients, but Americans deserve to know about the many disadvantages of Medicare Advantage. For example, unlike real Medicare, doctors often must get approval from the insurer in advance before treating their Medicare Advantage patients. Additionally, these private plans often have inadequate networks of doctors, hospitals, and other essential facilities. This stands in stark contrast to actual Medicare, where nearly all doctors and hospitals are available to patients without a referral.

Excellent article. So many seniors get sucked into these awful plans. What most people don’t know is that it is almost impossible to switch the regular Medicare if you want to switch from an MA plan to Medicare. Avoid MA plans at all costs. Love the work being done by Khanna and Pocan.
Sounds about right. I just turned sixty-four and have to figure this out in 2023. This should not be this difficult. What is one to do?
