We are so screwed. That Rural Health Bailout in the OBBA is a bandaid on a bullet wound. Patients will stay home or drive to the city. We can’t handle the whole state’s healthcare needs in the city hospitals. I speak for Texas, the worst state in the nation,in Austin.

Doctors will be forced to close practices, go “concierge” medicine to stay afloat and not even take insurance, or go under. Hospitals will close when the ratio of charity care to paying patients gets worse- because American hospitals have become for profit entities and well…capitalism.

Is America like an old drunk? Do we have to fall on our face collectively before we pick ourselves up and soberly face facts? I won’t hold my breath, but we the people need to Luigi the whole damn industry. Blow it up and start over.

Figuratively, of course.

Imagine Congress under George W. Bush added prescription drug to Medicare. Pharmaceutical industry lobbied to BAN Medicare from negotiating price. Guess the winner.

We the people will win now with the passage of Medicare for ALL act.

I don't know why anyone is surprised. The goal of capitalism is to maximize profits and increase them from year to year no matter what. What serious and enforced regulation, things will only get worse. But Americans put up with it because controlling capitalist is :socialism", the monster, or so they have been brought up to believe!

There was nothing in the Affordable Care Act that resembled Capitalism. It was a deliberate transfer of our money to large hospital systems, insurance companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and PBMs. We need to be purchasing healthcare not insurance.

Good luck with any type of reform under the Trump administration. It's truly a jungle out there.

The claim that United is the “third richest” company is misleading. It ranks third in revenue but 15th in profits.

Nonetheless, your point is well taken.

The problem is third-party payment, the root cause of healthcare inflation.

Eliminating it is politically and culturally impossible.

The next best solution is consolidating 60% of the healthcare tab paid by taxpayers into one Government Purchasing Organization (GPO), which would cut out the middlemen and secure the best deal from the supply side.
